This is the story of three best friends: one who was murdered, one who went to prison, and one who's been searching for the truth all these years . . .

When she was sixteen years old, Angela Wong—one of the most popular girls in school—disappeared without a trace. Nobody ever suspected that her best friend, Georgina Shaw, now an executive and rising star at her Seattle pharmaceutical company, was involved in any way. Certainly not Kaiser Brody, who was close with both girls back in high school.

But fourteen years later, Angela Wong's remains are discovered in the woods near Geo's childhood home. And Kaiser—now a detective with Seattle PD—finally learns the truth: Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who murdered at least three other women.

To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But to Geo, he's something else entirely. Back in high school, Calvin was Geo's first love. Turbulent and often volatile, their relationship bordered on obsession from the moment they met right up until the night Angela was killed.

For fourteen years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For fourteen years, she carried the secret of Angela's death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison.

While everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep. And what happened that fateful night is more complex and more chilling than anyone really knows. Now the obsessive past catches up with the deadly present when new bodies begin to turn up, killed in the exact same manner as Angela Wong.

How far will someone go to bury her secrets and hide her grief? How long can you get away with a lie? How long can you live with it?

I saw this book on Netgalley under the "read now" tab and I clicked on the description to read a bit more about it. I got hooked, I downloaded it and me being me forgot all about it ahah

A few weeks later I was scrolling through my stuff and I found it there and I started reading and I couldn't really stop. I read whenever I had an opportunity.

Let's just get something straight, I did not read this book for the characters, they were not likable at all. Honestly I don't think there was one character in this book that I did completely like. But that's ok because it was meant to be like this, and this is a book driven by the story and not by characters.

This book was great. It was perfectly paced, going from present to past, telling you how Angela got murdered and how Geo deals with it and how she manages in prison. Also we get Kaiser's view, since he is now a policeman and is investigating this new stream of murders that look like they were commited by Calvin and figuring out how Geo may be involved.

It was a surprise how well this book flowed. Geo, even though I didn't like her, adapted pretty well to any situation she was put in and see her debate whether she was a good person or a bad one was really interesting. Calvin was a psycopath there's no other way to describe him, but I feel like he was really inconsistent emotionally because either he cared about stuff that you wouldn't believe he cared or he was doing something atrocious. There was really no in between with him.
Kaiser and Geo's dad were okay, but still dealt with certain things a little bit weirdly if you ask me, but hey they're human and everyone's different right?

Also the writing was great even though the arc had a few mistakes in it, I'm sure the final product will have those sorted out.

Jar of Hears is a great thriller and a great read, it deals with difficult topics, and they are dealt with in shocking ways but this brings substance to the book. I would recommend it to everyone who is looking for a great thriller.
