Book Blogger Hop: April 6th - 12th

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme created by Ramblings of a Coffee Addict Writer where you answer a question and join a hop, where you'll meet new bloggers. Check her blog for more info.

This week's question is:

Do you overextend yourself with too many reviews because you can't pass up a book in hopes you will get them all done or do you carefully plan and be sure you can fulfill the deadlines for all the promised reviews? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

My answer:

Well I have a couple of issues dealing with time management so I honestly try the best I can. In the past I have really been failing with review copies since I couldn't find the time to read and review most of the books I get, but this year I believe I am quite on top of things. I have slowed down accepting and asking for review copies because I felt overwhelmed with the deadlines that were provided. This year I am actually dedicating time to read the books I want to read and not the books I felt I should be reading which helps so much because it allowed me to learn that it is ok to say no to review copies even if you are very thankful to have had the opportunity in the first place. Hopefuly I haven't rambled too much with my answer.

What about you?

  2. Wonderful answer.

I'm glad you are getting to read books of your own choosing.

It is difficult to turn down review copies, but sometimes we have to.

ENJOY your weekend and your books.

  3. I'm the same, I had to take a step back from accepting so many review copies to. Book blogging should be fun so we need to have a break if it's becoming a chore.

  6. Same! I stopped accepting honest reviews because I realized I was feeling too pressured and reading started feeling like homework I HAD to do. It is so easy to get caught up in getting free books and being able to give feedback to an author but the pressure can get daunting. Maybe in the future I'll try again. I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. I hope you do try because sometimes if we find some pretty good gems in the books we get to review. Hope you had a great weekend :)

  7. This is such a good answer! I definitely know what you mean about feeling like you need to take on reviews and then getting overwhelmed with the pressure of the different deadlines. It makes the reading experience generally less enjoyable. I just started taking on review requests so I think I definitely need to keep reminding myself that it's alright to say no. I've also found that some requesters think I don't have a life with commitments outside of providing (free) book reviews, which upsets me.

I also posted a response to the question on my blog if you'd like to check it out :) www.inkblottings.com

    1. Don't even get me started once I said yes to a book and the author was always on top of me wanting to know when I was reviewing it and publishing the review... It was awful because I was reading with a stupid amount of pressure on me. I'm really grateful for having received the book but give me some time please :P

  8. That's all you can do . . . the best you can. And it's great to fit in the books that you want to read. I've been trying to do that more lately as well.
